Passkeys are a modern and secure method of authentication that eliminates the need for traditional passwords. You can set up a passkey in the Microsoft Authenticator app as follows:
What you need:
- A device running Android 14 or later, or iOS 17 or later.
- Microsoft Authenticator app installed on your device.
- Multi-factor authentication (MFA) enabled for your account.
How to set up a passkey:
- Create a passkey:
- After signing in, tap your account in the app and select “Create passkey”.
- Set up screen lock:
- If screen lock is not yet configured on your device, you will be prompted to set it up.
- Enable Authenticator as a passkey provider:
- For Android:
- Go to “Settings” > “Passwords and accounts”.
- Under “More providers”, select “Authenticator”.
- For iOS:
- On iOS 18: Go to “Settings” > “General” > “Passwords & Autofill”.
- On iOS 17: Go to “Settings” > “Passwords” > “Password Options”.
- Ensure “Autofill Passwords and Passkeys” is enabled and Microsoft Authenticator is selected.
- For Android:
- Finish the process:
- Return to the Authenticator app and tap “Done” to confirm the setup.
After completing these steps, your account will have a passkey configured, allowing for more secure and convenient sign-ins without traditional passwords.
