Registering a personal device with your work or school network

What does device registration mean?

We recommend registering your device with CTU. This reduces the number of MFA prompts when using Office 365 applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.). Each browser requires separate authentication, and you also need to authenticate on each device (tablet, phone, etc.).

Important: Unlike enrolling a device into Intune, registration does not involve device management, and your personal data remains untouched.

Benefits of device registration

  • Reduces the number of MFA prompts for Office 365 apps.
  • Separates work and personal environments – IT administrators cannot access your personal apps and data.
  • Minimal device impact – does not require full device management.

How to register your device

For Windows (10/11)

  1. Open Settings:
    • Click Start → Settings → Accounts → Access work or school.
  2. Add your account:
    • Click Connect.
    • Enter your work or school email and follow the prompts.
  3. Register the device:
    • If prompted to register your device, confirm.
    • After successful registration, the device will be joined to Azure AD but will remain a personal device (not managed by IT).

For mobile devices (iOS, Android)

  1. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device
  2. Select your work or school account
  3. Tap the gear icon in the top-right corner
  4. Select Add account to this device
  5. Complete the final step by verifying with MFA
